Mott

Mott finds Bram three summers before this morning, appearing one evening at the edge of Bram's firelight and sitting down out of reach, when Bram begins slipping away from the village to the high ground. He approaches at his own pace and remains with Bram after gradually accepting closeness. People ask Bram what sort of creature Mott is, but Bram supplies no answer that satisfies them. For Bram, knowing Mott as an individual is enough, without being able to give others a classification.

Appearance

His body is elongated and close to the earth, covered in a dark coat with green tones. He has wide cushioned feet that cross grass quietly, a blunt head, and dark eyes with a patient look. Mott nudges Bram's shoulder gently and presses into the scratching behind his ear with enough weight to nearly topple him. His chest sound continues while they rest together as the morning grows brighter around them.

Chapter 3

Mott abruptly becomes tense and motionless, cutting off his contented sound as he stands looking across the country. After the interruption passes, he trembles, relaxes, resumes his chest note, and returns to leaning against Bram. As Bram investigates, Mott follows much nearer than usual, repeatedly brushing Bram's knee. He becomes increasingly quiet as they approach the hillside and often looks up at Bram while the boy continues along his chosen direction. At the depression, Mott stays beside Bram's leg and refuses to descend after him. He gives a small questioning sound, and Bram stops; on their return, Mott follows comfortably again and later leans against him.
